Thoughts to fire in difficult times
We are preparing to say goodbye to a difficult year and there is no better way to do it than by reviewing those reflections that it has left us. All of us, to some extent, have managed to build some kind of knowledge and that is why we are no longer the same.
Saying goodbye to a difficult year is something that has a special meaning. The feeling is paradoxical. Each person, with their burdens and their findings, has finally managed to get here and that is the most important thing. However, many and many were left behind, with no possibility of return .
We have come to the end of this year with the feeling that a clear light is already shining on the horizon. However, we are not the same. Having gone through these months of uncertainty and restlessness has left a mark on us . It is time to look back and, before saying goodbye to a difficult year, collect all that we have learned.
The following are some phrases that can help us in that reflection.
" If I knew that the world would end tomorrow, I, still today, would plant a tree ."
-Martin Luther King-
1. The value of imagination
" In times of crisis the imagination is more effective than the intellect ."
One of the lessons of a crisis is that it lays bare our ignorance . We often rely on knowledge, but sometimes there are no answers. Something breaks and there is no manual. What to do? Einstein's phrase tells us: create. In this year it has been necessary for each one to invent or reinvent himself , starting from a bet and not from a certainty.
2. Critical situations
" All critical situations have a lightning bolt that blinds us or illuminates us ."
Before saying goodbye to a difficult year, it is worth asking ourselves about everything that this situation revealed to us. Surely, we have all perceived regions of ourselves that we have not seen before.
Lights and shadows that we would not have faced, had it not been for the crisis . We have discovered them or we intuit them. Let's help each other to finish unveiling them clearly.
3. Take on the challenges to say goodbye to a difficult year
" Being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional ."
Without a doubt, all of humanity as a whole was challenged during 2020. Every human being has had to fight a battle , sometimes intimate, sometimes external, sometimes both.
Being defeated is optional, because it does not have to do with a result, but with an attitude . Before saying goodbye to a difficult year, is it possible to focus your strength on the goal of moving forward?
4. The escape
" When you escape you are more prone to stumbling ."
Chances are, we've all clung to an escape fantasy this year. Yet deep down, there has never been a place to go, other than to the world of denial. Some have succumbed to it and made it an alternative. However, coping always brings us closer to the truth; fleeing, on the other hand, places us on the verge of error , but it also takes away a valuable opportunity: to grow.
5. The change
" When we are no longer capable of changing a situation, we face the challenge of changing ourselves ."
This beautiful phrase by Viktor Frankl could summarize what has been lived in this year. A reality was imposed that was impossible to change, at least in the short term.
People and societies have been changing to keep going. We have all, to some extent, succeeded. Nothing is the same, nobody is the same. Each person has passed tests, big or small. All . Let us acknowledge that achievement.
6. The meaning of a crack
" There is a crack in everything. This is how the light comes in . "
Discontinuity is sometimes thought of as a nuisance. What alters, what changes things, comes to be seen as a threat. It shouldn't be that way, because those cracks in reality are sources of revelation . The new truths must break the apparent solidity of the same to break through.
7. You sow and reap
"Do your duty and a little more and the future will take care of itself ."
Although humanity already glimpses a light of hope, there are still many questions. 2020 has been a health crisis, followed by crises of many kinds. Whats Next? Andrew Carnegie's phrase gives us the answer: what comes is the fruit of what we do today, along with an extra effort and good will .
8. The future should not bother you
" Never let the future disturb you. You will meet him, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason with which you fight today against the present ".
-Marco Aurelio -
This sentence confirms what has been said before. The future is not a reality that awaits us later, but a construction that is always being undertaken . For the future to be what we hope, or dream of, it is best to focus on today. What we improve today will bear fruit tomorrow. What we overlook will take the form of difficulty.
9. Hope and optimism
" Hope is not the same as optimism. It is not the conviction that something will turn out well but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out " .
-Vaclav Havel -
This is a beautiful phrase about a virtue that is often considered only suitable for idealists. It is not about everything going well or badly, but about giving meaning to what happens , be it good or bad. Finding its meaning is, at the same time, accepting that it is part of a reasonable logic and that, therefore, it is possible to understand and assume.
10. There are no guarantees
" It is the possibility that keeps me going, not the guarantee ."
To realistically say goodbye to a difficult year, a certainty that you have underlined this year: certainties only exist in the mind . Reality has a wide margin of uncertainty, but for the same reason, there are hundreds of possibilities that may be ahead of the way. Do not forget.
Finally, we have reached the threshold of this year; a few months ago, many wondered if we would make it. We are here and we do not know for sure what awaits us, but we have already learned that it is possible to fight a duel with the shadows and advance despite everything . Just like that it makes its way into the light.
Whatever the reasons, we can always accompany the person in their pain, staying by their side, sharing with them and respecting them.
We live in a globalized age, focused on materialism and consumption ... and also digitized. This makes us jump from one article after another without the necessary depth, and terms are invented. You know: Peter Pan syndrome, imposter syndrome, "toxic" people ...
Infidelity is one of the situations that can have the greatest impact on the trajectory of a couple. However, despite its initial destructive nature, it can leave us with valuable lessons for the future.
